Assessing Topical Drugs Bioequivalence
This animation shows a new method that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other researchers developed to conduct testing on topical drugs, something that was previously more difficult. It's showcased above an "Impact Story" on FDA's website. This story, targeted at researchers, further details the scientific process: https://www.fda.gov/drugs/science-research-drugs/impact-story-developing-new-ways-evaluate-bioequivalence-topical-drugs
The content was very complex and technical, so simplifying the script as much as possible, while still retaining the important information, was key. We had to come up with visually interesting and attractive scenes, but also the diagram in the middle had to remain scientifically accurate while conforming to the style of the rest of the piece.
I animated this with After Effects and Character Animator, and I did the sound design and audio mix in Audition. All the characters' head movements and facial features are actually my own performances that were then tweaked in Character Animator. Rob Walker designed all the art.
